Discovering San Lorenzo
[
]

A tourist and commercial guide, a constantly updated Internet portal, a promotional flyer and street signs marking artistic and historic itineraries: many initiatives are being prepared to promote the knowledge of the extraordinary area of
San Lorenzo, a lively center which is at the same time a natural Florentine open air shopping mall and the home to many historic and artistic monuments.
Its popular traditions will be the narrative key to tell the story of this historic neighborhood. Gloria Chiarini, chief editor of the monthly magazine "Toscana Tascabile", will devise three
itineraries with stops and points of interest that will bring visitors through the alleys, streets and piazzas of the so-called Medici quarter: three half-day walks, each dedicated to the discovery of one of the most fascinating parts of the historic center, where, next to masterpieces by
Brunelleschi, Donatello and Michelangelo, it is easy to find the famous products of local artisans and taste the traditional dishes of Florentine cuisine.
This Guide will tell the story of San Lorenzo, from its medieval transformations to the construction of the great Renaissance monuments that surround it (the basilica of San Lorenzo, the Laurentian Library, the Medici Chapels, Palazzo Medici Riccardi) and the building of the Central Market at the end of the eighteen hundreds.
