Leonardo da Vinci

The Leonardo Codexes reversed
[Susan Glasspool]

Leonardo Museum VinciPaintings and drawings by Sergio Vacchi 1993-1997
Leonardo Museum and House of Leonardo at Anchiano, Vinci
May 29th – September 25th 2005
Daily 9.30am – 7pm
The opening hours of the exhibition coincide with those of the Leonardo Museum and the House of Leonardo (daily 9.30am-7pm). The Museum entrance ticket also includes the exhibition.

In this exhibition Sergio Vacchi presents a great cycle of work, carried out between 1993 and 1997, that up until now has never been displayed before. Here the artist proposes a re-visitation of the figure of Leonardo da Vinci and the constellation of symbolic images that can be associated with his name, thus offering a privileged viewpoint for meditation on the contemporary world and the condition of man.
The twenty large paintings in the main series of the cycle present the genius of Vinci’s surreal return to the present day, creating a short circuit between the elements in the humanistic world of his time and the cultural landscape of contemporary life. This theme is carried out in the visionary, corrosive and biting vein that has so characterised the painting of Sergio Vacchi in the past few years.

The exhibition is also an unusual experience for Vinci. The large canvases and some of the preparatory drawings will in fact be displayed in both of the two buildings at present occupied by the Leonardo Museum as well as in the House of Leonardo at Anchiano.
