This exhibition is mainly centred around the illuminated Gradual that Fra Angelico carried out for the convent of San Domenico at Fiesole, where he originally came from, and aims to help the public discover the artist’s miniatures in a more precise way and in greater detail by comparing them with examples of his paintings on wood from the same period, often presented as
paintings in miniature. the codex will be exhibited alongside some the most important paintings by Fra Angelico that stylistically and chronologically seem to be closely related to the miniatures, many of which are normally conserved and displayed in other rooms inside the
Museum of St. Mark, together with three important works that come from prestigious institutions abroad. the exhibition is also an opportunity to present the results of the codicological study carried out on the Gradual and other manuscripts by Sara Giacomelli as well as a scientific study carried out by the scientific experts of the iFAccnR and the
opificio delle Pietre Dure on the colours used to illuminate the Gradual, where comparisons are made with the colours used for painting on wood, and related to the technique analysis by Maria Paola Masini regarding the sources.
