As the hats and scarves begin to come off, students start planning their Spring Break trips, dreaming of their escape from scholarly duties for one week. Many students tend to vacation in other countries, but this year, why not stay in Italy and see all the sites that this beautiful country has to offer.
From the bustling streets of Milan to the glistening shores of Sorrento, we will show you how to see the major sites of Italy in just one week. Especially for those who are trying to save money, you can still see what each destination has to offer on a small budget.
• VENICE
Your one week adventure of Italy begins by traveling from Florence to the northeast
city of Venice. This sinking city offers beautiful, yet relaxing activities for tourists. Make sure you:
1. Visit Basilica San Marco
2. Walk around Piazza San Marco
3. See the Grand Canal
4. Visit Murano to see glass blowing
5. Take a gondola ride
• MILAN
After being surrounded by water, it is time to make your way over to Milan, a northern city that is know for being the fashion, as well as the banking capital of Italy. You will have to leave Venice on the morning of the second day and take a three and a half hour train ride into the heart of Milan. You will spend your second day in Milan, and leave in the afternoon of your third day so as soon as you arrive, go out and see the sights! Some of Milan’s famous sites include:
1. The Duomo
2. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele
3. La Scala Opera House
4. Leonardo da Vinci’s - The Last Supper (make a reservation before your trip!)
5. Milan Markets
• Cinque Terre
After immersing yourself in the face-paced lifestyle of Milan for a day, its time to put on your hiking shoes and get ready for Cinque Terre. Leaving Milan in the afternoon of your third day, you will have to hop right off the train and begin your hike. When traveling from the north to Cinque Terre you may have to switch trains in Genoa and then get a train to one of the five towns that makes up Cinque Terre; Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. Usually travelers at Cinque Terre travel over two or three of the hills on the first day and then finish the rest of the hike on the second day. Don’t forget to:
1. Purchase the Cinque Terre Card (5 euro for one day of hiking, 8 euro for two days)
2. Book a hostel in one of the five towns
3. Divide up the hike, which takes about 5 hours in total)
4. Take pictures of the stunning scenery!

• ROME
After you finish hiking the trails of Cinque Terre, it’s off see the magnificent sites of Rome! As you travel by train on the fourth day of your trip, you will have time to relax before seeing all the historic sites of Rome. Because there is so much to see in Rome, you will need the rest of your fourth day and fifth day to see all the city has to offer. Take the time to explore:
1. Saint Peter’s Basilica
2. The Coliseum
3. The Spanish Steps
4. The Vatican
5. Trevi Fountain
6. The Pantheon
7. Piazza Navona
• SORRENTO
The final stop of this one week tour of Italy ends in Sorrento, where you can relax and enjoy the picturesque scenery. Arriving in Sorrento on the sixth day of your trip allows you to have all day and night to enjoy the beautiful weather. While in Sorrento you can visit the surrounding towns or you can just relax. Things to do in Sorrento:

3. Lemon Grove Garden
4. Piazza Tasso
5. Swimming
After spending your sixth and final night in Sorrento, you will still have all day before you head back to your original destination. You can always travel by train back to Florence, or you can fly back to Florence out of Naples, depending on your preference and budget.
